Interview by Heidi Richards, MS

1. Tell us a little bit about yourself. I am a corporate escapee who sold my home, car and most of my belongings to travel the world and find myself 8 years ago. After my one-year solo journey around the world, I came home committed to doing work that would better the world. With a spiritual focus, I have walked a path for the last 8 years of self-evolution and continued dedication to making the planet a lighter place to live. Five years ago, I started my new career as a life coach and then quickly added Feng Shui to my expertise. With these two methodologies for changing people lives, I created my own version of “conscious spaces for intentional lives” on my new venture, www.architectyourlife.com. The birth of this site is the birth of my calling, to help people live more meaningful and fulfilling lives in order to create a more joyful planet. 2. What was your first year as a organizing professional like? What were/are some of the obstacles you have encountered (overcome)? My venture out into life/space coaching was a venture in observing the human journey. I was fresh with my skills and made curiosity about people my most powerful resource. As a new entrepreneur, I had to overcome the fear that I didn’t know enough, that I was actually running my own business and creating a sustainable life. I also had to overcome my fear of asking for help. In my first business, I didn’t ask for the help I needed and it hurt my bottom-line and my personal development greatly. The best thing I’ve done is hire an assistant and a business coach that had done what I was venturing out to do. I learned that I didn’t need to “do it all”, that I was much more able to increase my services and my income by getting assistance for my work.

3. What is the most unique aspect of your business? And what do you enjoy most? I have created a “category” and an “industry”. The work of Life Architects is my invention and it was born out of client need. I just had to find a name for it. At Architect Your Life, LLC, we use your space and your belongings to support you in your dreams. When your home reflects your intentions, you will thrive because you are reminded of it in your visual world! The website is the first ever personalized profiler for the home and life! I love that I have extracted my brain into a website that can serve many more people than I can by driving around in my car!!!

4. How has your experience, credentials and background helped you in marketing to new clients? My story has created clients who are interested in my work… my world travels, my corporate background and my spiritual background have all supported my evolving business because I can speak to a variety of audiences. I am eclectic in my education and my experiences… and because of that I present authenticity… and authenticity is my business. If I were not authentic, I would not have attracted the clients I seek to serve.

5. What, if any significant partnerships have played a role in your success? I have a team of coaches: a business coach, a team performance coach, and a CFO. I have also teamed with my attorneys and accountants and vendors that believe and support the vision. Every person who touches the Architect Your Life, LLC is interviewed for their passion before that begin work. This assures me that the team is working at their highest brilliance. When communication or team issues arise, we have a language and a methodology to sort through it and we have a team performance coach to assist individuals in developing themselves.

6. On your website, Architect Your Life, Teleseminars appear to be your primary service. What other services do you provide? Architect Your Life, LLC is comprised of multiple business units:

  • The website profiler and self-coaching guides.
  • Talk with a Life Architect Call Center.
  • The Academy for Life Architects (which is in the process of becoming licensed by the State of Washington as a private vocational school)
  • Products.
  • Publishing, workbooks, books online and in print.
  • Online learning.
  • Onsite Consultations.

7. With regards to establishing a website filled with resources you will ultimately offer your clients, what’s the best advice you have ever received about website development? Make sure you have an experienced development team that is connected as a team. It’s better to spend money up front than in the back end fixing huge problems as a result of budget cuts. Stay on top of what is being built for what you’re spending. Think about the user, always! And have a sales and marketing expert review the functional spec inside and out before signing off!

8. What are some of the trends you are noticing in your industry? People are looking for more ways to become authentic, stylish and conscious of the planet. TV has made home makeovers a fun idea, but no one would want them to come to their house! Good entertainment, but not personal decorating!

9. With regards to the Women’s ECommerce Association, how do you see being a member as a benefit to you and your organization? I want to be connected to other women who are learning more and more about how to make the web a place to gather, build and use for the betterment of women globally. The web business is a huge opportunity for women to create, grow prosperous and offer their individuality to the entire world with one idea!

10. Is there anything else you would like to share with our readers? As a woman entrepreneur, use your feminine power to move people into action to support your dream. We hold the keys to the force that can heal the planet and change the world.
