Wire-Side Chat Etiquette

The Wire-side chats allow users on the Internet to network with one other by typing in real time. We have a very diverse membership representing many countries with cultural, religious and ethnic differences. Please keep that in mind at all times when participating in the discussions in our Wire-side chats. These Wire-side chats are designed to “help you do business on the WEB,” and as such our topics will be of a professional/business nature. Other “rules” of our wire-side chats include:

  • Keep comments short and to the point. It is better to read through the thread (replies and posts) made and compile your comments into a single post than to send one line additions to several messages in the thread. This makes it easier for each attendee to read and comprehend.
  • You should have posted your profile when you signed up for the session. Please do not repost to the list. If you did not post a profile before the session you are attending, send a message to Heidi@wecai.org and the profile template will be sent to you to complete.
  • Stay on-topic as much as possible (this does not mean NO off-topic emails, but try and keep those to a minimum). We realize that every now and then we will get in an off-topic mode, but do your best to keep these to a minimum. Keep in mind that these chats are one hour in length and as such we want to maximize our time together.
  • Before posting a reply to the list make sure that you are not repeating an answer or suggestion already posted to the list. Please read through the posts before sending your reply, so as to avoid repeating another person's response.
  • If you want to talk to someone offline, send a message saying Hi, who you are, and what you want.
  • Signature lines are generally acceptable when used in replies to posts made on the list, however, please keep signature lines to a maximum of five (5) lines. A sig file of no more than three (3) lines is preferred.
  • No Flaming – (personal abusive attacks intended to incite, degrade, make fun of another person or their ideas with no positive outcome). Use good manners, and differences can easily be avoided. We are here to help each other. Always be willing to "agree to disagree".
  • If you have questions, ask. People will respond if they have an answer. If your question does not receive an answer, it may be because the attendees either did not know the answer or did not read it. Don’t get discouraged. You may ask the question offline and we will do our best to respond after the session.
  • If a facilitator asks you to drop a thread (line of discussion) - please do so. The aim of the discussion is to keep the conversation moving and allow each person to learn and share ideas in the limited time we have together.
  • Do not transmit via the WECAI Wire-side Chat any information, data, graphics, text, files, links, software, or other materials ("Content") that are or may be considered to be unlawful, harmful, threatening, abusive, harassing, defamatory, vulgar, pornographic, obscene, racially, ethnically or otherwise objectionable, or in any way violates any copyright or other intellectual property or proprietary rights of any person.
  • Use common courtesy and manners when participating in these chat room sessions and everyone will have a positive, informative experience.
