Meet Golden Mouse Award Recipient for Website Redesign
Dorothy Jacks joined the Property Appraiser’s Office in 1988. She is responsible for all public service functions including Exemption Services, Information Technology, GIS and our award-winning website.
In 2003, Dorothy developed a new website, pbcgov.com/papa, for the Property Appraiser’s Office, nicknamed PAPA (which stands for Property Appraiser’s Public Access).
Dorothy directed a team of Information Technology specialists to design a singular website that was easy to navigate and uncomplicated with up-to-date functions. Through an online survey and focus groups, Dorothy asked people in the real estate business what they needed to help them research our public records database.
The new site won a Webby Worthy award in 2005 from the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences.
Dorothy also redesigned and updated the International Association of Assessing Officers Florida chapter website (fciaao.org), when she served as President in 2008.
In 2011, Dorothy determined the Property Appraiser’s website needed a complete overhaul to make it interactive and updated with today’s enhanced technology. To help prepare, she again went to the real estate community for insight. We launched the new interactive website in 2012.
Dorothy holds a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from the University of Florida and serves on the boards of several community organizations in Palm Beach County. She currently is President of the Friends of the West Palm Beach Public Library. She lives in a historic home built in 1919 in downtown West Palm Beach with her husband Britt Deviney.
