In a previous post we talked about How to increase your Websites Link Popularity For Better Search Engine Results

Here are Four more tips to make sure your linking strategy is successful:

#1. Set up a schedule to check your ranking in search engines frequently to see if your link popularity has improved. There are several tools you can use but one that we find valuable is SiteOps BackLink Checker TOOL and the IWeb Tool. If you have the Google toolbar I recommend using that as it will likely provide you the most accurate results.

#2. Stay away from “link farms.”  Linking up with a large number of other websites will not achieve link popularity. In fact, it could have quite the opposite effect. This is particularly true when pertaining to websites that are nothing more than “link farms” – pages containing dozens (or even hundreds) of indiscriminate links. Search engines have been known to ignore or even devalue a website that is associated with link farms. While they may have once had value, in today’s online search engine practices, they are not seldom if ever used by respected authority sites or Quality Internet marketers.

#3. Only link to Quality websites. Never link to a page you have reservations about your visitors seeing. Linking to sites of poor quality will only lessen your link popularity, your reputation and could actually do more harm than good in the search engines and with potential prospects.   Reputation by association is just as important online as it is offline.

#4. Make sure you have a beautiful, streamlined site or you will never persuade anyone to link to you. You must either be prepared to spend some time at this process, or hire someone to do it for you. In the long run you will be rewarded by having a better ranking via the link popularity of your site. And better rankings means more traffic. And more traffic can ultimately add to your bottom line.

As you can see by the last two posts on the Women in Ecommerce™ blog, link popularity is critical to getting higher rankings in the search engines, without this piece of the search engine optimization SEO puzzle, your website or blog may never get found online.
